Weddings: They're Not Just For Spring Anymore!

As the weather begins to warm, and the green buds push their way out of the winter soil, you start to see more and more articles and posts about weddings and celebrations. And while blooming gardens and sunny days are plenty romantic, let’s not forget that the other seasons can be romantic as well. And, just like Spring, every season has its flowers, perfect for bouquets and arrangements.

Spring, full of cherry blossoms and other pastel colors, is soft and romantic. The weather is refreshing after a winter indoors. Pinks, lavenders, baby blues, they are all in their splendor, and outdoor weddings are very popular this time of year.

Cheerful pastels compliment the season

With the long daylight hours and longer growing season, there are a variety of flower options in Summer. So many colors! Sunny yellows, greens, reds and more are available in the warmer months. Daytime weddings can run into sunset, and cooler evenings make it perfect for dancing under the stars. With fresh fruits and vegetables so prevalent in the summer, menus are fun and exciting as well!

So what should you do about your bouquet and arrangements?

No matter what the season, deciding what you will carry is actually pretty important. Your bouquet isn’t just a way to keep nervous hands occupied. It ties all of your decor and design together, and puts all of the focus on the bride. So, the variety of the flowers may differ, as does the size of the bouquet. Questions like “what should I do with the flowers after the wedding?” and ‘Where did this tradition originate anyway?” are frequently asked.

from small nosegays to modern styles, it’s your choice…

The practice of carrying a bouquet dates to antiquity. At first, the Ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians carried fragrant herbs and flowers to ward off bad luck during a wedding. Fresh flowers symbolized a new beginning, happiness and fertility. But the modern wedding bouquet has its roots in the symbolism that began during the Victorian era. Not only were brides able to communicate their romantic thoughts through the flowers they chose, but the perfume of the blooms also masked their body odor.

These days, it’s simply a matter of personal choice. Flower choices, color, bouquet size and style is all left up to what feels best for the couple. Complimenting the wedding dress, matching the decor, and choosing a traditional vs contemporary design should all be considered.

Consider bouquets for the entire wedding party…

And flowers are not just for the bride. Bridesmaids, flower girls, family members, ring bearers and ushers may all be decked out. Whether its a nosegay, a corsage or a boutonniere, all options should be taken into consideration. Maids generally carrier a small version of the bridal bouquet, perhaps reserving a special color for the bride that doesn’t appear elsewhere.

If you are using live flowers, you may have your bouquet preserved. But more and more these days, brides are opting for silk or other sorts of flowers. This means you can keep your special day alive, not just in pictures, but year round and on display. Not every bride chooses a traditional bouquet.
